Artist Statement:

I identify myself as a crane in this series because I believe that the symbolic meaning of balance is something I strive for in my life. I use abstracted cranes in this series because I see myself as a transforming personality. Some images draw upon the concept of duality, yet make oneness in their origin of the personality that makes me. Some images represent ink paintings because the crane's traditional tie to asian art. The works of zen and taoist art inform the balancing composition of many of the pieces, in which I contrast the absence of space and the physical matter of the world. I reference the flow of ink as methods for my ways in enacting my life philosophy, in the principle of wu-wei. Meaning, to live life in action without action.
